Adaptability and responsiveness depend on the chosen base, longer or shorter.

By using a shorter base than the original, you get an overall more flexible mast which gives you a lower draft, and more control, which is useful in stronger winds.



On the other hand, if you use a longer base you get a more rigid mast and therefore a stronger sail with a higher draft in the sail. This version will be useful notably in more gentle winds.
