Thermal insulation - Warmth
This down jacket, worn as a 3rd layer, has been certified for a comfort temperature of -10°C during a standardised test in a thermal chamber.
The model is wearing a synthetic long-sleeved T-shirt and a light fleece underneath. It works with a simulated 5 km/h wind.
In our heat comparison tool, it represents 3 stars out of 5.
We have also tested this model in "static" mode; the comfort temperature is +5°C in this case.
What wadding is used?
We use 100% polyester wadding, of which 70% is recycled.
The density of this wadding is 170 g/m2 in the body and 150 g/m2 in the sleeves and hood.
The wadding is made from silicon-coated spiral fibres that make it highly compressible and highly durable.
It has high insulation properties thanks to the air trapped inside yet remains lightweight.
It remains warm even when wet.
Do you know why the inner lining of your padded jacket is grey?
Because the fabric we use reduces CO2 emissions by 40%.
The fabric used is innovative because it mixes a dope-dyed black yarn and an undyed yarn.
Compared to a classic dyeing process, this process reduces by:
- 66% fine particle emissions (PM2.5)
- 74% eutrophication of fresh water
- 68% eutrophication of sea water
What is the water-repellent property of the component?
The water-repellent property of a fabric is its capacity to make water run off its surface without absorbing it.
As a result, the fabric does not soak up water and stays light and warm. Please note this protects you from light and short rain showers but not from severe bad weather. The padded jacket is not waterproof.
The fabric is made water-repellent by treating its outer surface, however this property may deteriorate with use.
We recommend that you restore it after each wash

Storage tips
To keep the wadding inflated, we recommend you store your padded jacket on a hanger and not folded up in its storage bag!
TESTS AND WARRANTY
Test product
The Trek 500 padded jacket was tested by 9 users in the Bauges Mountains in October 2019. These independent testers were accompanied by Decathlon's design teams: Maïté, our product engineer, Mélanie, our designer, and myself, product manager. We tested this padded jacket over 5 days in cold and snow conditions, with beautiful days walking and nights spent in a gite or bivouac. This test let us validate the product in use.
